Abstract

Fine motor development in early childhood is a crucial aspect that influences children’s readiness for various learning activities. This study aims to examine the effect of block play on the development of fine motor skills in kindergarten children. A qualitative approach was employed, using a literature review method to collect and analyze secondary data from books, journals, scientific articles, and credible online sources. Data were analyzed descriptively with a thematic approach to understand the concepts of fine motor skills, the characteristics of block play, and its influence on children’s abilities. The findings indicate that block play effectively stimulates hand-eye coordination, small muscle control, precision, and concentration. Manipulative, constructive, and open-ended activities enable children to develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and social abilities simultaneously. The implementation of block play, structured in planning, execution, and evaluation stages, and supported by teachers as facilitators, enhances the effectiveness of fine motor skill stimulation. Therefore, block play is not only a recreational activity but also an educational medium that optimally develops children’s fine motor skills in an engaging and meaningful manner while supporting cognitive, social, and emotional development.
