Abstract

Sensorimotor development in early childhood forms a crucial foundation for physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional abilities. Sand play is an effective learning strategy for stimulating hand-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, dexterity, and manipulative abilities in children. This study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review to analyze the influence of sand play activities on the sensorimotor development of early childhood children. The findings indicate that sand play provides multi-sensory stimulation, enhances creativity, divergent thinking, and practical problem-solving skills. It also encourages social interaction, cooperation, sharing, and appreciation of peers’ ideas, supporting children’s socio-emotional development. Systematic, thematic, and process-oriented sand play learning strategies increase the effectiveness of sensorimotor and cognitive stimulation, while preparing children for more complex academic and social skills. The results of this study provide a scientific basis for early childhood educators to design sand play activities that are enjoyable, educational, and capable of fostering innovative, creative, and adaptive abilities in young children.
